July/August Summer Reading Program

Please Join us For Summer Reading 2017 At Peoples library Lower Burrell!

  • July 5th/12th/19th/26th/August 9th, 1:30 PM: Musical Storytime! Kids in third grade and  younger with their  families can choose  from a variety of musical instruments such as tambourines, shakers, rhythm  sticks, and  maracas!  Families  are also  welcome  to  bring  their own instruments  to play!
  • July 5th/12th/19th/26th/August 9th, 3 PM: Storytime!  – Families  with children  entering  third  grade and younger are invited to join Miss Katie for some Summer Reading themed craft projects, stories, and songs every week! After the  program, be sure to stay and  play the  piano or draw on the chalkboard.
  • July 13th, 1 PM: Carnegie Museum Presents: “Exploring Ancient Egypt!” Unearth the wonders of Ancient Egypt! This 45 minute class will teach  you about the art, architecture, writing, artifacts,and Egyptian mummies, as well as the unique desert landscape of the Nile  River. Space is limited to the  first 30 children, so sign up right away!
  • July  18th/25th/August  1st, 2  PM: CMU  Presents:  “Building  Up!” – Ever wanted to build your own skyscraper? Great! But first you have to learn how! Join us for a special  three-part course  taught  by the Carnegie-Mellon School  Of  Architecture  and  construct  a model  of  your dream skyscraper!Please make sure  your child will be able to attend all three classes before registering.
  • August 7th, 1 PM: Science Center Presents: “Build It!” Join us for an hour of fantastical construction projects! In this one-time workshop you will create sculptures, design your dream home , and so much more! Space is limited to the first 30 children.

Please Join Us For summer Reading 2017 At Peoples Library New Kensington!

  • July 11th/18th/25th/August 1st/8th, 11  AM: Storytime! – Families with children entering  third  grade and younger are invited to join Miss Katie for some Summer Reading themed craft projects, stories, and songs every week! After the  program, be sure to stay and  play the  piano or draw on the chalkboard.
  • July 11th/18th/25th/August 1st/8th, 1 PM: Musical Storytime! Kids in third grade and younger  with their  families can choose  from a variety of musical instruments such as tambourines,  shakers, rhythm sticks, and maracas! Families are also welcome  to bring their own instruments to play!
  • July 20th,  1  PM: Science  Center  Presents: “Junior  Scientist-Engineer” – All elementary age kids are invited to become Junior Scientist-Engineers! This hour long program will have you competing with your  friends to build the Tower Challenge, then test the strength of  your very own mini suspension bridge! Space is limited to the  first 30 children.
  • July 27th, 1 PM: National Aviary Presents: “African Penguin Pre-School” – Join us for a special visit from the National Aviary!  Your whole  family will love meeting  the  Aviary’s African  Penguins, and  learning  all about how  wild  penguins  grow up on the rocky islands  of  Namibia!
  • August 3rd/10th, 1 PM: CMU Presents: “Architecture Without Walls!” – How do architects design the spaces between buildings? In this two-session  workshop, students will learn about architecture  while creating their own model  park with a playground, garden, and pavilion. Presented by Carnegie-Mellon School Of Architecture.  Please be sure  your child  can attend  both the August  3rd  and August 10th sessions before signing up!
