New Kensington native Willie Thrower broke the racial barrier in the NFL when he took his first snap as the quarterback for the Chicago Bears on October 18, 1953. With that snap from his center, he became the first African American quarterback to play in the NFL. In honor of Willie Thrower and his first snap, Peoples Library will be sharing stories of ordinary people that changed the world.
